Kompiam Rural Hospital is the major referral center for the district and serves as the administrative hub for Enga Baptist Health Services (EBHS). The hospital currently has 63 beds, with an additional 24 beds to come into use, once the new ward extension is fully equipped increasing total capacity to 87. It provides comprehensive medical, surgical, pediatric, internal medicine and obstetric services, and acts as the primary base and coordination point for all preventative health programs in the Kompiam area.
Kompiam is located 45km from Wabag town along a challenging dirt road, and is also serviced by Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) aircrafts, ensuring access during periods of poor road conditions.
Power supply has been progressively upgraded over the past 20 years, with the hospital and staff housing now benefiting from reliable 24-hour solar generated electricity supported by a standby diesel generator. This has significantly improved clinical care, cold-chain reliability, and staff living conditions.
Over the past two decades, the hospital’s services, infrastructure, and training capacity have been steadily strengthened. With the ongoing redevelopment, Kompiam aims to establish itself as a major center for both high-quality rural health care and medical training in Papua New Guinea.
