Kompiam International School (KIS) began in 2008 under the leadership of Mrs. Karina Mills, starting with just 10 students in Grades 1-7, taught by volunteer teachers. The school was established to meet a critical need for reliable, high-quality education in Kompiam, where limited schooling options had long forced families to leave the area in search of better opportunities.
Over the years, KIS expanded to include kindergarten and secondary pathways as enrolment grew and community demand increased. In 2015, a purpose-built double-storey classroom block was dedicated, providing space for up to 50 students and limited staff housing. This development marked a major milestone in strengthening education access in the district.
In 2020, KIS celebrated its first Grade 12 graduate, opening doors to higher education and demonstrating the school’s growing capacity to support long-term learning in a remote rural setting. Since its establishment, KIS has become an integral part of Kompiam Hospital’s operations, contributing to staff retention, family stability, and community development.
