Aiyokos is our most accessible health center, located 30 minutes’ drive back towards Wabag from Kompiam. The facility is jointly staffed by Enga Provincial Health Authority (EPHA) personnel and Enga Baptist Health Services (EBHS) staff, with three EBHS staff members currently stationed there.
The health center is equipped with a 240-volt solar system that powers a vaccine fridge and oxygen concentrators. Sustainable water supply has been an ongoing challenge, and at present the facility relies on rainwater collected in large storage tanks.
Common illnesses in the Aiyokos area include; pneumonia, diarrheal diseases and increasingly tuberculosis as well as various forms of trauma. The elevation is around 6,000 feet, making the climate colder and wetter than Kompiam.
In 2025, new outpatient (OPD) building was opened, representing a major step forward for service delivery. However, the building still requires furniture, cupboards, and basic fittings before it can be fully utilized. Solar lighting has been installed, and water supply has been connected to the OPD building. However, the inpatient ward and Officer-in-Charge (OIC) staff house still require renovation and maintenance.
Aiyokos remains a key health facility for the district, with ongoing improvements needed to bring the center to full operational capacity.
